Chien à Le French May

Published exclusively in this site on 29 June 2011.

I know it is almost July now, but Le French May is still kicking all around town. agnès b.’s LIBRAIRIE GALERIE is now hosting an exhibition by a French artist, Cyprien Chabert, on a hypothetical deserted island he found. The exhibition, Dogs Meowing, lets its audience reflect upon what the world would be like if we, as human beings, ceased to exist. Will we be sorely missed? Or will the other creatures we are currently residing with be secretly glad that we all disappeared?

Kuala Lumpur - What to Wear

First published in Wearever the Weather on 28 June 2011.

Kuala Lumpur, though a place of many religions, is mainly influenced by the Islamic culture. This is reflected through their dress sense. When I was there last summer I flew in wearing a sleeveless shirt paired with a mini skirt, and was awarded with disapproving looks as soon as I arrived at their airport, so try to be more cultural sensitive and cover up a significant amount of flesh.

A Hong Kong Blogger's Choice in Hong Kong Blogs

First published in Elysiants on 28 December 2011.

I don't think it comes as any surprise that I, as a blogger, love reading blogs. I do often get asked to recommend a site or two for different purposes, so I thought what better than to share with you all what I read on a daily basis? I did pick Hong Kong based sites particularly, because they are more relevant and engaging for us.

1. Buzz

Do you feel like you are a step behind everyone else? Do you find that everyone is talking about something you know nothing about? Then you should keep Lifestyle Asia and CNN Go on your bookmark.

Lifestyle Asia (English/Chinese), as an online magazine, is always the first to reveal the latest scoop in the region. If you have been out last night, be sure to keep an eye on their photo gallery, because your photos might just pop up.

Skin Deep - Leather Workshops in Hong Kong

First published in Elysiants on 15 December 2011.

Like I said before, this city has any the courses under the sun to offer, and it just depends on whether you have the time and patience for them all. You might say, why bother making it yourself when there are so many places in Hong Kong that offers custom made leather goods, like Cocomojo or Kei Poon? But then if you are thinking of an anniversary or birthday gift, there is no better way to show how much you care than making it with your own bare hands. So here are several places where they will teach you the basics on how to make your one-of-a-kind leather bags, belts or even iPhone cases:

Distinguished Luxury? The Property Market in 2017

Published exclusively in this site on 21 June 2011.

Hong Kong's soaring property prices have attracted much attention from the performing arts sector, such as Dream Home starring Josie Ho, and Little Hong Kong Season Three starring Joey Leung. Museum Minus has taken satire pieces up a notch by replicating a Hong Kong "luxury" flat at their office in Prince Edward, which is now open for visits during weekends.

Through the Looking Glass - Glassmaking Workshops in Hong Kong

First published in Elysiants on 16 December 2011.

Hong Kong is such a compact city. It allows you to learn pretty much anything that you can think of, and a certain few that you have never imagined. Last time I have gone close to glass making was in Murano, and I still remember that fabulous ruby red glass goblet that I fell in love with. Fancy learning a few tricks that they simply don't imitate at the Venetian Macao? Here are two places you can drop by for a workshop on glass shaping!

Selling Point

Selling Point in Lamma Island runs classes around your schedule, so if you can gather one to three more friends a week in advance, they will prepare a course just for you. It takes around three hours of blowing and burning, which is pretty much like doing CPR in the heat, and you will be leaving with three delicate glass bottles or bulbs. Paired with local seafood, it will make a great day trip, be it a romantic one with your significant other or a friendly get together with your buddies.

Borrowing the Weekend Look - Fashion Inspirations from Something Borrowed

First published in Elysiants on 27 November 2011.

Something Borrowed offers more than just relationship insights. The cast portrayed New Yorkers who often went over to the Hamptons to spend their weekends. Let's see if we can get a few ideas from their suburban looks!

Ginnifer Goodwin's floral dress is definitely very spring looking, and can be rather versatile with dressing up or down. Her character, Rachel, would have loved to have gone to Zara, and dig through the amazing flower prints dresses they have in stock this season.

Photographie à Le French May

Published exclusively in this site on 13 June 2011.

I don't know why everyone except me seems to know that Le French May goes on well beyond May. I guess Le French Mai et Juin just doesn't have the same ring to it? Anyhow, I was pretty surprised to have ran into Bettina Rheims' photo exhibition in the City Hall when I was there for Chung Ying Theatre Company's drama performance, Amadeus.

A Touch of Innocence - All About White Lace

Published exclusively in this site on 10 June 2011.

Like I said before, I am crazy about lace. White lace is pretty much the exact opposite of its black counterpart, but equally flattering. The magic with it is just a dab of white lace makes you look pure and angelic. Let's see how the designers have incorporated this charming factor into 2011 Spring/Summer's pieces!

Bling on the Diva - Interview with Candace Cheung, Director of Divalicious

First published in Lifestyle Asia on 9 June 2011.

This city is somehow obsessed with bra straps. You can tell by just browsing through any local gossip magazine, which goes ooh and aah with the slightest sight of any celebrity’s bra straps. Candace also noticed that taboo in our culture too, and in 2009, she created Divalicious – a brand specialising in creating bling bling bra straps for all occasions. I am excited to be interviewing her, and she will be sharing her source of muse with us.

All that Jazz - Top 5 Jazz Bar in Hong Kong

First published in Lifestyle Asia on 2 June 2011.

Jazz is synonymous to feeling laid back, transporting us back to Chicago during the 1920s. It seems like the jazz bars in town are a bit of a sacred hideaway, and after a bit of digging, here are my top five picks of the best jazz bars in town.

1. Fringe Club

I recommend the Saturday night Jazz at the Fringe Club on the last Saturday of every month. Their jazz band is mainly made up of Japanese musicians, so you will see lots of their Japanese fans getting there real early for a quick chat. It is a very intimate performance area, and seats are on first come first serve basis, so get there earlier with a couple of friends to enjoy a chill drink and a spectacular performance.

Wanna know what other jazz bars I would recommend? Read the rest of the article at Lifestyle Asia!

A Touch of Mystique - All about Black Lace

Published exclusively in this site on 1 June 2011.

All my friends know that everything I wear has to have a bit of lace in it. Black lace, in particular, oozes the vibe of sexiness and seductiveness. I love how, with black lace, just a little bit of it would spice up the entire look. Let me show you what is high on my lust list this season! I do have a few pieces of the following fashion items, but I will leave it to you to guess which ones those are.
