Hey Big Spender - Where to go for Impressive Dates

First Published in Lifestyle Asia on 3 March 2011.

Whether it is a big anniversary with your wife coming up or a first time out with the girl you want to impress, ideas for dates are often a great deal of hassle for boys. This is why the girls and I have been putting our heads together to come up with a few pointers:

Above and Beyond

Peninsula fanatic Keely suggested a hearty meal at Felix. With the stunning view overlooking the Victoria Harbour, it feels like the two of you own the world. They also have a live band in the house, playing jazz and various other love songs to set the mood. Keely suggested getting there before 8pm so that the two of you can catch the Symphony of Lights. Watching it on the top floor of the Peninsula gives the light performance a whole different feel. If you want to add an extra wow factor to your date, why don't you fly her over from HMS Tamar on the helicopter? There aren't many hotels with their own helicopter pad, but Peninsula does.

Wanna know where else to take her in Macau, Shanghai, and Singapore? Read the rest of the article at Lifestyle Asia!

Oriental Express

If you and your date like the Chinese Culture the way Jessie does, then you are set for a great time at Hu Tong. The atmosphere there is amazing, with a spectacular view of the harbour and intriguing Chinese decor. Providing attentive service and meticulously-presented dishes, the place is set to impress. Jessie has added that the lighting is rather dim inside, so it gives some room for the two of you to get a bit cozy. If neither of you gets seasick, you can also board the Aqua Luna, an exotic Chinese Junk, to complete your date in the Orient.

Sonnets from the Portuguese

Priscilla has opted for the exclusive Robuchon a Galera over in Macau. The Michelin-starred restaurant serves mouth-watering food in impeccable service. This is where you could take a girl who is in awe of old fashion charms. If the two of you are staying over in Macau, then a suite in Four Seasons would definitely be the preferred choice for your short break from Hong Kong.

Right on the Bund

For a proper sit down dinner, Audrey suggested Mr. and Mrs. Bund in Shanghai. Not only do they serve authentic French cuisine, the wines are also fantastic. The decor makes you feel like you are in an uber chic home, which is both trendy and welcoming. They also have a balcony area, which looks upon the breathtaking view of the Bund. If you are staying over in Shanghai, Keely will jump in and suggest the Peninsula.

Hanging Gardens

If you think you have taken her to one too many Al Fresco bar already, think again. Iris thinks the atmosphere is most important, and One Altitude is nothing like where you have been before. As the highest Al Fresco bar in the world, the views are magnificent, especially if you go during F1. Interestingly enough, they have a golf simulator inside, so you can impress her with your golfing skills as well. The choice of stay would be at Fullerton, which is the impressive colonial building right next door.
